f21 faves
with the summer coming — i’m thinking all my clothes are too confining and tight and black. so if i’m buying clothes for the new season, i’m going to focus on loose and lightweight materials. you can kind of see that’s where my head is at with these picks.
SOME OF MY CURRENT FAVES
boxy blouse / cotton shirt dress / romper / clutch / backpack / sandals / linen pants / crop top

maker spotlight : owlkill studio
today i want to introduce you to the lovely adelia of owlkill studio! they make lovely handmade jewelry + leather accessories in their studio in upstate NY. i’ve been following adelia on instagram for a while now, and i’ve been obsessed with her serene studio scenes that she shares and obviously her perfectly simple products.
FIRST OFF, TELL US ABOUT YOU + YOUR SHOP!
i’m adelia sugarman, the owner / designer / maker behind owlkill studio. i make minimal jewelry and accessories in my small renovated studio in upstate ny using carefully sourced materials like dead stock vintage beads and scrap leather. the name comes from the owlkill river, which runs through the woods behind my parents’ house where i grew up.
WHEN DID YOU FIRST START CREATING?
i’ve always been a creative person, and i’ve had a pretty unconventional upbringing that allowed me to indulge my creativity from a very young age. my mom is an amazing artist and actually worked as a designer of hand hooked wool rugs for almost 3 decades, starting before i was born. i have so many early memories of going to work with her and watching her sketch out designs on giant light tables and listening to npr all day. so from a very young age i thought that being an artist was a totally normal job to have, and i think it really shaped my expectations of what i could do with myself later in life.

our wedding : sources
to wrap up the entire week of wedding posts, i thought it would be fun + helpful (?) to share the sources of everything.
our custom cocktail napkins were printed by for your party, they were sooo helpful when i called multiple times to ask questions and make changes. and they even helped us save on the napkins using the same top image and typing in the facts themselves. and YES. both of our names are in lyrics on the white album! clearly it’s meant to be.

everything else we made for our wedding
because i didn’t have process shots for the remaining things i made, i decided to round everything up in one post (with as much detail as i can tell you)! we were at my moms house working on all of the projects, because no cats and waaay more space to make + store things. (we actually had an entire closet full of all the wedding stuff, which we still haven’t cleared out — sorry mom.)
wood plant hangers
i had wood cut in various sizes : square and rectangle and got some simple woven rope. using my stepdads drill press (you can also just use a regular drill), we just cut four holes in each piece of wood and tied big enough knots on the underside to hold in place. we mixed it up in terms of sizes and layers, and added a large metal ring to the top of each hanger. we made these last minute just to hang at the bar during cocktail hour, because we are cray. and thank you to my brother who helped hold while i tied. -
our guestbook table
for our guest book table at the wedding, we decided to make advice cards vs having an actual book. this way, we thought we could avoid the typical “thanks for having us, love blank & blank” and get some real talk from our guests.
we went with three categories : advice for us, date ideas, and fond memories.

how we did our own wedding florals
i want to preface this post by saying i am not a florist. that is a given, i just know that i like really organic floral arrangements and the quotes from the local florists we got were just way too high. so we ended up doing it ourselves because we had already committed to destroying our year with wedding planning anyway, what’s one more thing?!
when we ran out of flowers for our arrangements, the bouquets ended up being a lot more greenery and filler than we’d planned, but i think we totally pulled it off!

diy wood wedding signs
now that the wedding has been posted on green wedding shoes, i’ve been getting emails from you guys asking how i did a few things. so although i don’t have a ton of process shots due to doing 400 DIYs at once, i’m going to do some posts on some of the projects we did for the wedding this week! it also seemed fitting, because i’m out of town this week on my way to my brothers wedding this weekend!
first up is how we did our wedding signs! if you saw the wedding photos, then you know there were a shit ton of them. honestly, these weren’t easy. gideon did the painting and i did the tracing because he has a much steadier hand than i do, and when i did the painting they looked way less perfect. so obviously, he wasn’t happy when i came up with long sayings for each sign. but i wanted to inject our personalities into everything!
here’s how we did ’em!

happy weekend
this week has been all about prepping for next week for me. my brother’s getting married next weekend and i’ve been getting my best man toast together, while kind of packing because i leave tuesday! my dad, stepmom and i are driving up to his wedding in wine country — we’re gonna stop to visit hearst castle and go to big sur for two nights. anyone have any recommendations?! let me know!
don’t worry though, i’ve changed and i was planning on taking a week off from the blog, but then i decided last minute to just setup a post for every day. next week is wedding week. i’m going to post all of the DIYs i did. all of them. get ready.
