six easter egg DIYS

6 easter egg DIYS to do | almost makes perfect

i am not huge into easter for two reasons.

one : i am jewish. that’s the big one.
two : because there is no way i would ever consider making a perfectly perfect egg inedible. like no way. when i have kids, we’re using fake eggs. i refuse to not eat the egg.

next week i’ll have one easter project for you guys, but it won’t be an egg project. don’t get me wrong though, i still admire beautiful easter egg projects, so here are my favorites!

ONE / TWO / THREE / FOUR / FIVE / SIX

  1. we still ate our eggs but we used nontoxic egg dye. Or maybe it was toxic. Who knows? We just picked off the shell. But, I want to try the leaf ones above. Those are gorgeous!!!

  2. My family has always eaten the eggs after they’ve been dyed…. I had no idea people didn’t eat them! That seems like such a waste.

  3. Ooh, those pink crescent moon eggs are pretty!

I’m not into Easter either, because I’m an atheist, and I don’t like the taste of eggs. But I was raised with Easter, and my family always ate the hard-boiled eggs. I thought everyone did! I’ve never heard that they’re inedible.

    1. apparently i know nothing about easter! haha

  4. I agree with the comments. You dye or decorate only after you’ve hard-boiled the eggs, and then eat them later. My mom always tells perfect strangers every year that the Easter egg tradition started when early Christians could not eat dairy, eggs or meat during Lent and so boiled their eggs and dipped them in wax to preserve them until Easter, when they could eat eggs again.

    1. Probably way more than you wanted know. Sorry.

  5. HAHAHA! My mom always told my brother and I that we had to color real eggs! I never understood because she always tore them up to make deviled eggs anyways…

  6. I’ve always poked two holes either end of the egg with a pin. You blow through one hole and the raw egg falls out through the other hole into a bowl ready to use for cooking etc.
You are then left with just the shell.

    1. Gabrielle says:

Hayley – That’s what we did too! Poke holes, blow out the egg yolks and whites and then dump the eggs quickly in water to rinse out any leftover yolk/whites. The huffing and puffing on the first few always killed my cheeks (tip: it’s easier if you burst the yolk while when you poke your holes since it won’t try to all come out at once through the tiny hole then), but it was definitely worth not wasting the food! Plus, if any of them turn out amazing that year, they can be wrapped and stored for next year… Coming from a non-artistic family, we never wanted to waste our random, successful bursts of creativity since they tend to be so far and few between!

  7. i agree blowing the eggs and then rinsing them is the way to go. That way you can keep them from year to year and build up a collection of different ones.

  8. I did a DIY easter eggs with Minions from Despicable Me, but I just used plastic eggs. If you use food coloring, they’ll still be edible 🙂

  9. Thanks so much for including me on your list of favorites – I’m honored 🙂 I totally agree with the whole egg thing, which is why we only use fake ones too!!
